Class A extinguishers: are for combustible materials such as paper, wood, cardboard, and most plastics.
Class B Extinguishers: are for use with flammable or combustible liquids such as petrol, kerosene, grease and oil.
Class C Extinguishers: are for gas fire risks. Never attempt to tackle a class C fire, isolate gas supply where possible and evacuate the area.
Class D Extinguishers: are commonly found in chemical laboratories. They are for fires that involve combustible metals, such as magnesium, titanium, potassium and sodium.
Class F Extinguishers: are the most recent addition to the fire classifications list. These are for deep fat or cooking oil fires and are now standard in commercial kitchens such as restaurants, hotels or takeaways.
